Notebook stream of consciousness

Are you blogging this…

When you’re talking to a person or watching something or having any sort of experience that you think is so significant you want to leave and blog it or go get a camera and record it and put it on YouTube or something. And then comes the realization that you should just enjoy it instead of looking back on it… Gaahhh is there a word for this…?? (calling Urban Dictionary junkies and fluent Weblish speakers)

Meaning Markup Language

MML is the ultimate state of Information Technology. It’s a file format, a markup language, like RSS or something, that stores information the way the brain does, not in any human language, but in universally understandable meaning.

You could download the contents of your brain to your computer in an MML file to remember a certain event or something…

but let’s think big here…

What if everyone’s brain is plugged directly into the internet, where their memories are constantly downloaded and memories, knowledge, and understanding from everyone else on the network are available brain-readable MML instantly and intuitively – like the entire human knowledge base is in your memory.

What would be the implications? It would make all existing forms of communication and art obsolete. But, again thinking big…

It wouldn’t happen this way, but imagine the switch is flicked and the global MML network comes online… Suddenly everyone would see the contents of everyone else’s mind. There would be no barriers, no way to shield anything from being seen by everyone else, but then again, they’re thoughts, wishes, fears and insecurities would be laid bare for you to see as well. But with the unlimited knowledge there would come a sense of understanding. The police would understand the criminals – see why they commit their crimes, and the other way around. The activists would understand the politicians’ limitations and the politicians would understand the activists’ visions… Everyone would understand everyone else.

And in this everyone would lose their identity.

If you understand every existing worldview, how could you hold only one? How could you consider yourself part of a group like a political party? How could there be discrimination if our universal humanity is truly understood by all? How could there be war, if you have inside your memory the childhood of the person you’re supposed to be shooting?

So, when the switch flips, the walls between individuals would be erased and the entire human race would become one. And what would being part of this one feel like? More importantly, what would the one be like? Perhaps a higher collective consciousness would arise, with the brainpower, knowledge, and wisdom of 6 billion people its command, a macrocosm of a brain with a brain as each of its neurons. It would be a super-species. Homo Sapien squared.

Who knows.

For now my visionary powers are exhausted and I should be in bed. Hope I’ve provoked some thought…

The Shower

The shower is a happy place, he said;

A place one goes to wash one’s head.

One’s motivation to spring from bed.

The thought of leaving fills one with dread

For a far harsher world lies in wait outside this curtained paradise
